BPC-157 had no approved US use when checked on September 28, 2026, against Food and Drug Administration (FDA) records. FDA approval means the agency has checked a particular medicine’s evidence for a specific use. Start here ## What is it, in plain words? For BPC-157, “peptide” means a small chain of protein building blocks. BPC-157 is a lab-made peptide based on a protein fragment reported in stomach juice. So the substance is real? Yes, BPC-157 is a substance researchers study; a treatment benefit in people is a separate question. Its link to stomach juice does not establish that it is safe to inject. Ask who was studied. ## What can the human studies tell us? The evidence picture below was checked on September 28, 2026. FDA’s review found five human studies, with roughly 80 people given BPC-157 across them. The comparison group gives researchers something to judge a change against: people who were not given the substance. Two of those studies used comparison groups. Only short summaries prepared for research meetings are available for those two studies, rather than full reports. The knee-pain report used no comparison group, leaving it unable to show whether the improvement came from BPC-157. Reported tendon-healing results come from rats; they do not establish the same benefit in people. ### A blank is still a blank. FDA found the human studies too small and too short to describe the safety of BPC-157. Without an approved BPC-157 label, there is no FDA-reviewed guidance on pregnancy or how it may act with other medicines. A clinic offering BPC-157 does not by itself make it legal to prepare. The word compounding describes a pharmacist or doctor preparing a medicine for a patient. FDA lists BPC-157 among the withdrawn requests on a page marked current to April 22, 2026. The groups asking FDA to allow the ingredient took back their requests. Taking back those requests does not mean FDA allowed the ingredient. For pharmacies that prepare a medicine for an individual patient’s prescription, federal rules do not allow BPC-157 as an ingredient. That position was checked on September 26, 2026. For that ingredient, a prescription by itself gives the pharmacy no permission to use it. ### What would help me move forward? Start with a visit about the problem you want help with. An in-person clinic or telehealth service can be a place to ask. During telehealth, you talk by phone, video or online messages with a health professional, such as a nurse or doctor.
